Hello. My name is Mathew and I want to welcome you to my blog. I'm not very experience with the internet and stuff, but I started this blog to write a few articles about wedding speeches, especially the father of the groom speech. My son got married last month so I decided to share a few tips about how to write a wedding speech, because I, myself, had a lot of troubles preparing my toast. So I'll try to gather in one place all the tips and ideas I learned in the past months (click here for some speech examples).

In this introductory article I'll tell you a few things about the father of the groom speech template. Here are the main ideas that you should make sure you include in your wedding toast:

1) First, you will thank the bride's father for the opening toast (usually he gives the first speech, being the host of the event, but about the wedding speech order we'll talk in the next article). You should also thank him for all the trouble he went through to setup the wedding and also compliment him and his wife for raising such a great daughter (click here for some opening lines ideas for your speech).

2) Next you thank to all the guests that came to the wedding. Let them know how much you appreciate their effort to make it to the wedding, no matter how long some of them traveled.

3) Next, you say a few nice things about the bride. Welcome her into your family and let her know how much she means to you and how happy you are that she's marring your son.

4) Next, you say a few things about your son. You can start with some memories from his childhood, maybe share a few funny moments from the past. You should talk about 2-3 minutes about this stuff.

5) In the end, you raise your glass and propose a toast to the newlyweds and wish them a happy marriage (here are some closing lines for your toast).

This is the basic structured for the father of the groom speech. In the next articles we'll discuss about the wedding speech order and some tips about your speech and the presentation.
This is a good thing to know, because you will include in your speech ideas that will related to the other speakers before you and after you.

Although there could be up to 8-9 speeches at a wedding, there are only about 3 or 4 that are traditional in almost every weddings, and these are:

father of the bride speech

father of the groom speech

groom's speech

best man speech

These are included in almost every wedding ceremony, but there are also other speeches that can be present in the wedding reception, like: mother of the bride and mother of the groom, the bride herself and the maid of honor speech. But these aren't very common, so depending on your culture or tradition, they might be missing or not.

Father of the bride speech

The bride's father has the opening speech, because he's considered to be the host of the even, since in most traditions, the parents of the bride pay for the wedding expenses. So he'll have the opening speech where he'll thank the guests for coming to the wedding, thank to all the others that were involved in the wedding setup, welcome the groom into his family and then say a few things about the bride.

Father of the groom speech

Usually, the next speech is held by the groom's father, and we discussed in the previous article about the template for this speech (click here for some speech templates).

Groom's speech

Next is the groom, who usually thanks to everybody that came to the wedding and to those that were involved in the wedding setup and shares a few stories about how he met his wife.

Best man speech

The final speech belongs to the best man and this is supposed to be the funniest speech at every wedding. The best man mainly will focus on telling funny jokes about the newlyweds and share funny moments about the bride and the groom.
